Our client wanted us to propose and develop a solution to display custom reports and key performance indicators (KPI) in dashboard so that the management can effectively track and analyse the business in real-time. NetSuite’s dashboards are very flexible in relation to displaying custom reports and other key performance indicators. However, our client’ requirements were specific and they needed out of the box NetSuite functionalities to be implemented in their dashboard. Our team get in to a conclusion that the use of custom portlets would be the perfect solution to this requirement. Please continue reading to know how we have achieved it.

Requirement

NetSuite’s  dashboards are very flexible in relation to displaying custom reports and other key performance indicators. Sometimes, users may require out of the box NetSuite functionalities to be implemented in their dashboard, and here is when the use of custom portlets emerges. Custom portlets are basically Suitescripts which are deployed in dashboard directly.

Our client approached us with a requirement to display a customized chart in dashboard with the extracted data from the customer records. Our idea was creating a custom portlet with the help of Google charts and deploying it in the dashboard and it seemed the perfect solution for the problem.

Challenges

When the client approached Jobin&Jismi with the requirement to display custom charts in dashboard on NetSuite we decided to create a custom portlet and deploy it in dashboard. With the help of Google charts we can display the graph in any format, like pie chart, bar graph etc.

But the main problem we faced was “how to create the chart with the specific data from the customer records?”.

Our Solutions

To create the chart we needed data from records, so we created  a saved search. By specifying the results we needed and by setting the criteria, a saved search can search through millions of records to pinpoint the data you require for creating the chart.

After many hours of internal discussions and client interaction, our team has decided to develop a custom portlet in NetSuite.  Our expert team developed a custom portlet script which combines the result from saved search and custom records with the help of  Google charts.

Results

Jobin&Jismi provided an efficient solution to display the customized chart  in the dashboard using Google chart. The main highlights of our achieved solution are

1. Created a Saved Search to return the specific data set against a set of parameters.
2. Created a custom portlet script using the data from Saved Search with the help of Google charts.
3. Deployed the custom portlet in client’s NetSuite account dashboard.
