Using QR Codes to Scan Multiple Pallets for Fulfilling Items in NetSuite

Problem Statement

The client has expressed a need to introduce a new system for fulfilling sales orders through trucks, and as part of this system, they require that a single fulfilment record is created for each truck. This means that when a truck is loaded with products for delivery, a record of this fulfillment is created, and this record contain all the relevant information related to the truck’s contents and destination. 

The client has requested that each pallet placed onto the truck be scanned to maintain correct inventory management. This implies that once work orders are completed, pallets will be scanned into the system to verify that they are correctly accounted for and included in the truck’s fulfillment record. 

However, the client has also highlighted that there is a potential issue with concurrent users attempting to fulfil the same sales order at the same time. If one user has partially fulfilled a sales order through the warehouse management system (WMS), and another user attempts to fulfill the same order simultaneously, this could result in a concurrency issue. In other words, there could be a conflict or inconsistency in the data, which could result in errors or incorrect information being recorded. 

What We Suggested 

As part of their analysis, the team determined that one key requirement was to provide users with an easy and efficient way to track the item fulfillment process. To address this need, they developed a solution that allows users to scan a QR code associated with each item being fulfilled. By scanning the code, the user can quickly and easily access information about the item, such as its quantity, destination, and other item specifications. 

In addition, the team recognized that it would be helpful to allow users to review the item list before proceeding with fulfillment. This would give them an opportunity to verify that all the necessary items are present and accounted for, and to make any necessary adjustments before the fulfillment process begins. To support this requirement, the team included an option for users to view the item list prior to scanning the QR code and initiating the fulfillment process.
